The Nashville Predators acquired veteran winger Cody McLeod from the Colorado Avalanche Friday morning. In a one-for-one deal, Nashville sent away Felix Girard.
Colorado Avalanche Deal Cody McLeod to the Nashville Predators
McLeod, like most of the Colorado Avalanche, is not having a productive season. He has a single goal in 28 games, to go along with 52 penalty minutes. McLeod leaves Colorado after spending his whole 10-season career with the Avalanche. He has amassed 117 points and 1,359 penalty minutes in 659 career games.
The Avalanche acquire a young forward in Girard. The 22-year-old center is playing his third season in the AHL. He has three goals and eight points in 35 games for the Milwaukee Admirals this season. Girard was a fourth-round selection of the Predators in the 2013 NHL Draft. He has yet to play a game in the NHL.
Colorado also retained 40% of McLeod’s contract, providing a little bit more incentive in the trade.
This is the first NHL trade of 2017, and expect more to come.
