Gabriel Landeskog Placed on IR By Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche have announced that they have placed forward Gabriel Landeskog on the injured reserve list.  The 24-year old winger missed his sixth straight game yesterday with what has only been described as a “lower-body injury”  Landeskog was injured in the Avs’ game against the Los Angeles Kings on November 15th.  The injury at the time did not seem major, considering Landeskog remained in the game and even scored a late game goal into an empty net.  However, it would later be revealed that the injury was worse than perceived and that he would indeed miss time.

Last week, Landeskog began skating in a non-contact jersey both with the team and on his own, but recently, he has held back, perhaps indicating the injury is still lingering.  “I don’t want to say he’s not day to day still,” head coach Jared Bednar said. “I’m hoping he’s more day to day than week to week. But now we have the ability to put him on IR retroactive and can come off at any time . . . He’s not going to play tomorrow. That’s all I know right now.” (Via the Colorado Avalanche team website).

As for Landeskog’s replacement, the Avalanche are exploring their options.  The filler has yet to be named but it is most likely to be either one of A.J. Greer, Gabriel Bourque, and Rocco Grimaldi.  All of these players spend their playing time with Colorado’s American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.  Grimaldi leads the Rampage with six goals and nine assists in 19 games played.  Greer has five goals and nine assists in 16 games and Bourque has two goals and three assists in 11 games played.

Landeskog has four goals and four assists in 15 games played this season for the Colorado Avalanche.
