Jonathan Huberdeau to Miss 3-4 Months With Injury

The Florida Panthers confirmed early Sunday afternoon that forward Jonathan Huberdeau suffered a lower-body injury and would miss three to four months as a result.  The injury occurred during the Panthers final pre-season game against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

The injury happened when Huberdeau got tied up behind the New Jersey net with Devils defenseman Sergey Kalinin.  In the scrum, Kalinin’s skate blade came down hard on Huberdeau’s lower leg/heal.  Instantaneously Huberdeau was in great pain and began hobbling around on the ice.  He was later assisted off the ice and to the dressing room.  Before Sunday’s announcement, the injury was described as a lower-body injury and that Jonathan Huberdeau would be out “long-term”.  But, it was revealed it was an Achilles laceration and that the recovery time would indeed be three to four months, placing Huberdeau at a March return period.

Huberdeau played in 76 games last season for the Panthers, scoring 20 goals, and adding 39 assists. He has played in a total of 272 games, all with the Panthers, since debuting in 2012-2013.  His career includes 58 goals and 114 assists.  Just this September, the 23 year old left winger signed a six year, $35.4 million contract extension with Florida.  He joins fellow teammate Nick Bjugstad (Finger) as Panthers players who will not be debuting in the season opener Thursday, October 13th, when they host the same team mentioned above, the New Jersey Devils.
