Canadiens Assign McCarron to AHL

McCarron will return to the Ice Caps to take part in their final couple of practices before the season starts.  McCarron put up a good camp for the Canadiens where he scored two goals and showed that his future with the club could be bright. Last season, McCarron played 20 games with the big club, scoring a goal and an assist.  While playing in the AHL, he put up 17 goals and 38 points in 58 games.

McCarron was the Canadiens first round pick in 2013.  He will likely be fighting for a job as the top centre for the Ice Caps with Charles Hudon.

Mike Condon Placed on Waivers

The Habs also announced that Condon has been placed on waivers.

Condon was placed on waivers by the Habs due, largely in part, to the signing of goaltender Al Montoya Montoya snatched the team’s backup role away from him in the pre-season.  Condon had his chances to get the back-up role, but wasn’t able to impress the way he did last pre-season when he stole the job from Dustin Tokarski.

This pre-season, the Canadiens were unable to win any of the three games in which he played. This includes a game in which Condon allowed the first two of three shots he faced in the first period against the Ottawa Senators.

Last season, Condon played 55 games for the Canadiens in which he replaced Carey Price as starter.  He posted a 21-25-3 record with 0.903 save percentage and allowed 2.71 goals per game. Condon overworked himself last season, as it was his first year playing more than 48 games in a season – and this was his rookie NHL year.

If Condon doesn’t get claimed or traded by 12 p.m. EST on Tuesday, he will be reporting to the IceCaps where he will join goaltenders Zach Fucale and Charlie Lindgren.

This news also means that first round pick Mikhail Sergachev and Finnish forward Artturi Lehkonen have officially made the 23-man roster.
