Barret Jackman announced his retirement Tuesday, during a press conference in St.Louis. Among those who attended the press conference were former Blues defenders, and hall of famers, Al Macinnis and Chris Pronger.

Barret Jackman Announces Retirement After 14 Seasons

Jackman was selected 17th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 1999 NHL Draft. His first full season with the Blues came in 2002-03, where he had 19 points in 82 games. That, combined with steady defensive play, was enough to see him win the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the year that season.

Overall, 13 of Jackman’s 14 seasons in the NHL were with St. Louis. After he became an unrestricted free agent at the age of 34, the Blues decided not to re-sign Jackman. Instead, the Nashville Predators signed him to a two-year deal worth $4 million. Jackman played 73 games with the Predators, netting five points, and 14 postseason games in which he didn’t have any points; before being bought-out by the team.

In 876 career NHL games, Jackman had 186 points (29 goals), a +54, and 1102 penalty minutes. He also played in 54 postseason games, recording seven points and 84 penalty minutes.

Jackman was also one of the alternate captains for the Blues from 2006-2015.
