The Ottawa Senators held a team scrimmage on Sunday, but the result was not near what the team was expecting. Veteran forward Clarke MacArthur suffered a huge hit by Patrick Sieloff and went down to the ice, needing help skating off. It would be later revealed that MacArthur was diagnosed with yet another concussion.

Clarke MacArthur was hoping to stay healthy this season, after missing almost all of last season (78 games) with a serious concussion. MacArthur has a history of head injuries, having suffered a concussion in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs and another two in previous seasons.

The hit in Sunday’s scrimmage occurred when Patrick Sieloff, who was acquired from the Calgary Flames this summer laid a high hit to the head of MacArthur in the corner. MacArthur immediately went down, as Sieloff was jumped by forward Bobby Ryan. Forward Derick Brassard and defenseman Chris Neil also showed their disinterest in the hit, going after Sieloff, who would ultimately be asked to leave the scrimmage following the hit.

Senators General Manager Pierre Dorion confirmed shortly after that a concussion was assessed and that MacArthur was sent home to rest and for further evaluation. MacArthur remains “day-to-day”, but it is feared that this concussion may be a career-ending one for the 31 year old Lloydminster, Alberta native. This will be his second concussion suffered now within a year.
MacArthur has been a significant forward for Ottawa since arriving from the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2013, scoring 40 goals and adding 51 assists in 141 games played (Excluding last season where he only played four games).
