Engvall And Lindgren sign ELC’S with the Leafs

Engvall spent the last year in Sweden playing for HV71 of the SHL. He had seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points in 31 games before being called up to the Marlies. He also added 12 minutes in penalties. In nine games with the Marlies, he scored four goals and four assists for eight points. He was originally drafted in the seventh round, 188th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Lindgren also spent last year playing in Finland for HPK in the SM-Liiga. He scored two goals and six assists in 43 games before joining the Toronto Marlies. He also added eight penalty minutes. Lindgren had an assist in four games with the Marlies. He was originally drafted in the fourth round, 95th overall in the 2015 NHL draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

What Does This Mean for the Future

With the Maple Leafs just naming Kyle Dubas as their new general manager it looks like he wants to continue the work done by previous regimes. Engvall was drafted in the Dave Nonis era, while Lindgren was part of the first draft of the Brendan Shanahan era. They have been playing and developing overseas. They will come to the AHL and are likely to see at least one full year down with the Marlies before being called up to the Leafs. The Leafs bring them in-house in order to continue to monitor their development and get them acclimatized to the North American game.

The Leafs also announced the signing of Igor Ozhiganov and Pär Lindholm.  You can find reports on  Ozhiganov here and Lindholm here.
