Dion Phaneuf Trade, Pierre Dorion and Jim Benning Extensions, and the Olympics

The Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings got trade deadline season off to a strong start with this week’s trade that includes Dion Phaneuf and Marian Gaborik. The boys break it all down and what it means for both clubs. They also look at deeper issues with the Ottawa Senators and the fact that general manager Pierre Dorion has been given a contract extension. What does his history of trades and signings mean for the Sens? The boys also look at a smaller move involving the Sens getting Ville Pokka from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Chris Didomenico.

The Senators provincial rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs also made a trade. They sent Nikita Soshnikov to the St. Louis Blues for a fourth-round draft pick. What does his future hold in St. Louis? What does the move mean for Josh Leivo and Leo Komarov? What about the fifty contract limit.

The boys also discuss Lars Eller‘s new contract with the Washington Capitals. They also give their opinion on today’s contract extension for Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning. Does he deserve it? Has he improved as a GM? How is his plan to rebuild the Canucks working out?

Lastly, the boys look at the preliminary round games in both the Men’s and Women’s Olympic tournaments.  What do the results mean and who will take home medals?

All that and more as we go On the Powerplay.
