On Thursday, Hockey Canada announced the members of the men’s hockey team for the upcoming Olympics. They faced a load of restrictions since the NHL is not allowing any players with an NHL contract to play.

Team Canada Announces Rosters for 2018 Winter Olympics

Their roster contains multiple former NHL-ers. Thursday’s announcement revealed a 25-man roster, 14 forwards, eight defensemen, and three goalies. Headlining the list are Ben Scrivens, Rene Bourque, and Wojtek Wolski.

Wolski had, arguably, the best career of any player on the roster. Originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of 2004, he played in a total of 10 NHL seasons. In his rookie year, Wolski broke the 50 point mark in 76 games. He placed eighth in Calder Memorial Trophy voting. His career took a dip after the 2008-09 season. Wolski never got it together after leaving the Avs and didn’t play more than 40 games in the latter half of his career. Now, Wolski is playing in the KHL. In a total of 40 games this year, he’s tallied 33 points.

There’s only one player who has never seen an NHL game, Mat Robinson. Chay Genoway has only played one game in the show, but the rest of the roster has played at least ten games.

Team Canada also announced that their bench will be lead by Willie Desjardins, who coached the Vancouver Canucks for three years. Dave King, who has coached for three different NHL teams and a handful of KHL teams, will also be on the bench as the associate coach.
