Big 12 Week One Winners: Big Numbers To Cover

Last week in Dublin, Big 12 fans got a tasty Farmagedon appetizer to kick off the 2025 season. But now it is time for the main course. A strong hat tip to Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark for spreading out Big 12 play across the full Labor Day weekend. Some of which have prime time games with the college football audience all to themselves. However, the theme for many of these Big 12 week one winners is the large spreads many Big 12 teams need to cover. All lines are provided by FanDuel.

Big 12 Week One Winners

Thursday Games

Jacksonville State (+17.5) At UCF

Version two of Scott Frost kicks off with a feisty Conference USA program. While they have a new head coach, this is still the defending C-USA champion. UCF is going to struggle plenty this season but will get one of its few wins this week. But expect Jax State to keep it close.

Moneyline: UCF ATS: Jacksonville State Total 52.5: Under

UT Martin (+17.5) At Oklahoma State

Can Mike Gundy live up to his reputation of performing at his best when expectations are the lowest? This game won’t be the greatest forecast for the season, but it should still be a win for the home team.

Moneyline: Oklahoma State ATS: UT Martin Total 55.5: Over

Stephen F. Austin (+22.5) At Houston

Willie Fritz enters his second season looking to continue to build up this Cougar program. Conner Weigman should lead this team to a win in his debut for Houston. But SFA is a quality FCS program and will keep the final score within three touchdowns.

Moneyline: Houston ATS: Stephen F. Austin Total 55.5: Under

Nebraska At Cincinnati (+6.5)

This game comes down to whether or not one believes in the Matt Rhule year three proof of concept. Cincinnati has some talented pieces on its roster, and Arrowhead Stadium will be buzzing Thursday night. But count us in as one of the believers of Rhule bringing the Cornhuskers to heights they have been craving for.

Moneyline: Nebraska ATS: Cincinnati Total 54.5: Under

Friday Games

Georgia Tech (-3.5) At Colorado

The Big 12 week one winners shift to Friday with two games that the entire country will be tuning into. Colorado’s strength is along its defensive line. But without knowing what the Buffaloes’ offense will look like, expect Georgia Tech’s physicality to rule the day in Boulder.

Moneyline: Georgia Tech ATS: Georgia Tech Total 54.5: Under

Auburn At Baylor (+2.5)

You may need to consult with your doctor if you have heart issues before watching this one. Both teams have a coach who could quickly get back on a scorching seat. Both offenses have dynamic playmakers. Lock up the over on this total because the Tiger and Bears winner will come down to who has the ball last. Dave Aranda’s team pulls the minor upset to start the season.

Moneyline: Baylor ATS: Baylor Total 57.5: Over

Saturday Games

There are three Big 12 week one winners without any lines set. Those games are Wagner At Kanas, Robert Morris at West Virginia and Arkansas-Pine Bluff At Texas Tech. Kansas is coming off a dominating win over Fresno State.  Rich Rodriguez makes is homecoming debut as the Mountainners head coach. Texas Tech offers the first look at their very expensive and talented roster. All teams will handle their FCS opponents easily at home.

South Dakota (+15.5) At Iowa State

Hat tip to the Solid Verbal as they would call this a “let down, look ahead sandwich” for Matt Campbell’s Cyclones. Coming off a big win in Ireland, Iowa State has Iowa on the schedule next week. A win there could immediately thrust Iowa State into the national conversation. But in between comes a South Dakota State team that starts ranked in the top 10 of the FCS. Don’t be surprised if this game is tied going into the fourth quarter. But Rocco Becht and company survive the upset scare.

Moneyline: Iowa State ATS: South Dakota Total 47.5: Under

North Dakota (+25.5) At Kansas State

The Wildcats let one slip away (literally and metaphorically) in Ireland. But this team is too talented to stay down. They take out their frustrations on a FCS opponent and only need about 10 pass attempts to do so.

Moneyline: Kansas State ATS: Kansas State Total 55.5: Under

Portland State At BYU (-43.5)

This is as great of a spot for a true freshman quarterback to make his debut. It is a home game against a FCS opponent who just lost to a fellow FCS team in week zero 42-0. There is a very good chance Portland State doesn’t score again for the second straight game against this very good Cougars defense.

Moneyline: BYU ATS: BYU Total 60.5: Under

North Arizona At Arizona State (-28.5)

Kenny Dillingham’s team begins their title defense with a sleep opener. Expect the Sun Devils to be in control throughout. They are going to try to end this game as quickly as possible.

Moneyline: Arizona State ATS: Arizona State Total 52.5: Under

Hawaii (+16.5) At Arizona

There is a good chance Stanford might go 0-12 this season. But Hawaii getting a win against a bad P4 team is still something. Arizona is not what anyone would consider a good P4 team either. But the quarterback play alone from Noah Fifita will keep the Wildcats from getting upset by the Rainbow Warriors from the island.

Moneyline: Arizona ATS: Hawaii Total 55.5: Under

Utah (-6.5) At UCLA

Is this the start of the revenge tour for Kyle Whittingham’s Utes? A proud program fell flat in their Big 12 debut. But with the quarterback position finally solved, will they be conference contenders? They square off against a former Pac 12 member that they are 7-2 against since 2014. Expect Utah’s defense to rattle transfer quarterback Nico Iamaleava and control this game physically from the opening kickoff.

Moneyline: Utah ATS: Utah Total 50.5: Under

TCU (-3.5) At North Carolina

The final game of the Big 12 week one winners takes place on Labor Day. All eyes will be on Bill Belichick’s debut. But this TCU team is not looking to lay an egg again in a national spotlight game like they did against Colorado in 2023. Headlined by one of the best quarterbacks in the conference, the Horned Frogs spoil Belichick’s debut and win 45-21.

Moneyline: TCU ATS: TCU Total 57.5: Over

About Andrew McCleary

A native Texan, Andrew was baptized early on in the waters of college football. But when he witnessed Vince Young scampering into the end zone to defeat the USC Trojans in 2006, it was from his seat in the Rose Bowl he knew nothing could compete. He is a former college baseball player, proud Texas Tech graduate, and Air Force veteran. Andrew and his wife live in Maryland with their 4 kids and black lab. When not covering the Big 12, he can be frequently found tending to BBQ on his smoker on the weekends.
