Top Defensive Prospect From Alabama
As has become the norm over the last few years Mark Stoops and Kentucky have yet another top 30 recruiting class. While a number of the commitments are on offense they certainly haven’t forgotten the defensive side of the ball. Coordinator Brad White’s likely have to replace several players before next year. One position in particular, the secondary, has gotten a lot of attention. Let’s introduce you to the top player in the class who certainly fits that bill as Kentucky signs four-star Andrew Purcell.
Tons Of Potential
Hailing from Enterprise High School in Enterprise, Alabama Purcell ranks as the 314th best player in the nation according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. In addition, he’s the 17th-best player in Alabama and the 30th overall cornerback in the nation. Recruited by defensive backs coach Chris Collins, Purcell pledged to Kentucky back on June 17th, just one day after visiting Lexington. He held offers from many college football powerhouses including Clemson, Georgia, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Tennessee. During his junior year, Purcell recorded 19 tackles and picked off six passes. In addition, he caught five passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns. During his senior campaign, the Wildcats finished 8-5 overall but made it to the Class 7A semi-finals losing to Thompson 31-7.
Now that we’ve given you some background let’s talk about how he fits in the system as Kentucky signs four-star Andrew Purcell.
Pushing For Playing Time?
This promises to be a very interesting off-season for Stoops and the Cats. It’s almost certain Maxwell Hairston will declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite missing half the season to injury he’s projected as a second-day pick. In addition, Kristian Story and Zion Childress have played their last game. While UK has several young players returning the possibility of getting snaps as a freshman is certainly a possibility.
