Ohio State Officially Signs 5-Star CB Devin Sanchez

Ohio State prides itself on being DBU and calls its secondary BIA (Best in America). Over the years, the Buckeyes have put numerous corners and safeties into the NFL. The Buckeyes’ addition of Tim Walton in 2022 has paid dividends. This year’s class has plenty of top-end talent in the defensive backfield. None are more day-one-ready than Devin Sanchez.

Ohio State Officially Signs 5-Star CB Devin Sanchez

Sanchez pledged his services to Ohio State on January 6, 2024. In the 333 days since he has never wavered despite a push from the top programs in his home state of Texas. At the time of his commitment, he was considered a five-star athlete, second-best corner, and sixth-best overall player in the 2025 cycle. At the time of signing, he is still a five-star. Now, he’s the top corner and fifth-best player in the class according to 247Sports.

Despite Ohio State’s disappointing loss to Michigan, Sanchez re-affirmed his commitment to the Buckeyes.

If there is going to be a player in this class who can make an immediate impact, it would be Sanchez. Regardless of the fact Ohio State’s secondary depth chart is covered in top-end talents, Sanchez looks like he can be the best of them all.

The six-foot-two, 170-pound corner possesses just about every ideal physical and athletic trait Ohio State is looking for. At one of Texas’ premier high schools at North Shore in Houston, Sanchez got on the field early and often. He plays incredibly instinctive and 247Sports believes he “owns a rare combination of frame length, fluidity, and sudden athleticism.”

Sanchez can play in both zone and man schemes. He’s more than capable of keeping up with elite speed in turn-and-run situations, as Ohio State corners are often utilized. He has a high football IQ and can anticipate where the quarterback is going with the ball. When the ball is in the air, Sanchez has an impressive ability to track the ball down and make a play with serious closing speed. That speed was on display on a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown where he was clocked at 21.3 miles per hour.

247Sports has him compared to first-round pick, Christian Gonzalez.
