Week Ten Winners From The Big 12

Amateur golfers often refer to the one or two shots every 18 holes that always bring them back for another round of golf, despite shooting a 115. The week nine winners are the weeks that keep the motivation high for the next week. The money line was 5-1. Both the totals and against the spread picks went 4-2. We also secured another lock of the week. The week ten winners provide some juicy matchups that will shape the Big 12 conference championship game. As always, all lines/totals are reflected in the most common number across multiple sports books at the time of publication.

Week Ten Winners From The Big 12

Season Record ML: 52-21

Season Record ATS: 28-37

Season Record Totals: 33-32

Lock of the Week: 4-2

TCU At Texas Tech (-3)

To kick off the week ten winners, the Big 12 travels out to Lubbock on Thursday night. Two teams scrapping just to make a bowl game play in a defacto elimination game. Joey McGuire needs to have his offense show up in the second half to secure a victory over the rival Horned Frogs.

#23 Kansas State At #7 Texas (-4.5)

While Texas isn’t undefeated, the Longhorns have done everything to erase the old narrative surrounding this program. They have answered the bell with consistency all season. But as the calendar turns to November, this is when true playoff statements are made. Chris Klieman is bringing a tough and resilient squad that the Longhorn jerseys will not intimate. But this is the true defining moment for Texas. Even with backup quarterback Maalik Murphy making his second start in as many weeks, this Texas team has proven it’s different. This game also involves our lock of the week as both teams will score points in this game.

#9 Oklahoma At #22 Oklahoma State (+6.5)

Merriam-Webster provides two definitions of “bedlam”:

  1. a place, scene, or state of uproar and confusion
  2. an asylum for the mentally ill

This in-state rivalry has very rarely been a state of confusion. Oklahoma owns a record of 91-19-7 against Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have never beaten the Sooners more than two consecutive years. Mike Gundy has only beaten Oklahoma three times in his long coaching career. And yet, the scene in Stillwater will likely look like a combination of the two definitions of Bedlam come Saturday. Oklahoma State has found a very clear offensive identity that the Sooners will not have an answer for. In what will be the final Bedlam matchup for the foreseeable future, the Cowboys get the last laugh.

Houston At Baylor (-3.5)

The week ten winners will have not one, but two pillow fights in the Big 12. Both Dana Holgorsen and Dave Aranda have teams that are both likely to miss the bowling season. The loser of this game isn’t mathematically eliminated just yet but emotionally will be done for the season. A loss by either team only ratches up the heat on their respective coach’s seat. In looking for an edge, Baylor has won more recently (against Cincinnati, take it for what it’s worth) so they will keep any possible bowl momentum rolling at home in an ugly, low-scoring game.

Moneyline: Baylor ATS: Baylor Total 57.5: Under

UCF (-3.5) At Cincinnati

If Waco’s pillow wasn’t cool enough for the college football audience, flip that pillow over and grab a bowl of Skyline chili. The best thing the Bearcats have done is beat a two-win Pittsburgh team. Meanwhile, the best thing UCF has done is almost upset Oklahoma. What we know undoubtedly is someone has to get their first Big 12 victory on Saturday between these two. Gus Malzahn is getting more from his offense than Scott Satterfield is these days, so the Knights finally crack the Big 12 win column.

Moneyline: UCF ATS: UCF Total 59.5: Under

#21 Kansas At Iowa State (-2.5)

The Jayhawks are loving life right now. After taking down the Sooners last week, they made their debut in the college football playoff rankings for the first time in program history. And now they have a legitimate path to a Big 12 championship game birth. However, they are traveling to Ames to take on a stingy Cyclone defense. Lance Leipold’s job has been remarkable. But this has a classic let-down spot written all over it. Kansas has been a different team (for the worse) all year on the road. This team still is learning to deal with new levels of success, and the road letdown will jump up and bite them.

Moneyline: Iowa State ATS: Iowa State Total 53.5: Under

BYU At West Virginia (-10)

The Mountaineers had been overachieving in the first half of the season. But the last few weeks have been closer to preseason expectations for Neal Brown and company. They had lost two straight before snapping their losing streak to UCF last week. West Virginia returns to the friendly confines of Morgantown and welcomes BYU to town. The Cougars have struggled offensively in the last three weeks and now face a tough West Virginia defense. The offensive line of the Mountaineers will control this game from start to finish.
