Top Five Candidates

1. Bryce Young

QB | Alabama                                                                                                                                                                    Next Game: 9/10 at Texas

Young and Alabama left little doubt that he is the best player in the country and Alabama is the premier team in the country with a 55-0 win over Utah State. Having new targets was no problem as Young accounted for six total touchdowns including five through the air on only 18 completions. All eyes will be on Alabama as they travel to Austin to take on Texas in the top game of the weekend.

2. CJ Stroud

QB | Ohio State                                                                                                                                                                         Next Game: 9/10 vs Arkansas State

Stroud and the Ohio State offense did not put up the jaw-dropping numbers that many expected. However, his 223 yards and two touchdown performance was enough to keep him firmly in the second slot. The Ohio State offense should have an opportunity to get back into the swing of things offensively when they host Arkansas State on Saturday.

3. Anthony Richardson

QB | Florida                                                                                                                                                                       Next Game: 9/10 vs Kentucky

By far the biggest surprise of the season is seeing Richardson here on this list at the number three spot. But, 274 all-purpose yards with three rushing touchdowns and a win over Utah was enough to catch the eyes of the voters. There’s no rest for the weary as Richardson and the Gators have another battle this week with Kentucky coming to town.

4. Bijan Robinson

RB | Texas                                                                                                                                                                        Next Game: 9/10 vs Alabama

Although he didn’t have a huge workload against Louisiana Monroe on Saturday, Robinson made the most of his opportunities. He had 111 total yards and added a couple of scores to go along with it. Robinson perhaps has the greatest opportunity on his hands on Saturday then he will all season long. Alabama has the best defensive line in the country and if he can put up good numbers it might just elevate him to the top spot.

QB | Georgia                                                                                                                                                                           Next Game: 9/10 vs Samford

Not bad for a guy that was told that he wouldn’t be good enough to help this team. After playing more of a game manager role last year, he had arguably the best performance in week one against Oregon. His 368 yards were the highest among quarterbacks in the top five. Bennett will have an easier outlook this week is the Bulldogs will host Samford.
