Nicholas Singleton Signs with Penn State
Four-star running back from Reading, Pennsylvania, Nicholas Singleton, signs with Penn State Wednesday morning. Early signing day is like Christmas morning for college football fans and Nittany Lion fans are no different. A thing that is important to Penn State is recruiting young men that are a good cultural fit with high character. Playing well on the field is important, but so is a young man with good character. Singleton has both. He earned the Gatorade Player of the Year Award and was told by none other than former Penn State great Saquon Barkley. The six-foot, 210-pound prospect is the fourth-ranked running back in the class and second-ranked player in Pennsylvania according to the 247Sports composite.
Singleton Breakdown
The Penn State running back position has young talent, but the running game needs some help. The rush offense was one of the worst in college football this year. Something that the Nittany Lions aren’t used to after historic success at the position. Singleton plans to enroll at Penn State in January to hit the ground running. In addition to Gatorade Player of the Year, Singelton has also been named to the All-American Bowl.
Singleton committed to Penn State in July 2021 and received over 30 offers, including from Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, and Wisconsin. Singelton rushed for 2,049 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2021. He added 98 receiving yards and two additional scores.
Scouts compare Singleton to Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns. He has speed and bulk, making him a punishing rusher with the ability to burn you if you miss. Has great downhill speed, but can gain yardage through the trenches as well. However, his pass-catching ability was limited over the last two seasons with three receptions in 2020 and four in 2021. If Penn State can address the offensive line issues, look for Singleton to make an impact early.
