The Florida Gators have added a former five-star recruit and #1 ranked wide receiver to their roster. Redshirt-freshman wide receiver Justin Shorter has announced that he’ll be transferring to the University of Florida. The Gators are in need of receivers and the addition of Shorter could really help them out. Shorter leaves Penn State after signing with them two years ago. Coming out of high school, Shorter was one of the top ranked recruits in the country at his position. He will need to apply for a waiver in order to be eligible to play for the Gators in the 2020 season.
Who is Justin Shorter?
Shorter was a redshirt-freshman wide receiver out of the Penn State University. Shorter was an Under Armour All-American coming out of high school. On 247 Sports, Shorter was the seventh ranked recruit and the #1 ranked wide receiver in the country. On ESPN, Shorter was the eighth ranked recruit and the #1 ranked wide receiver in the country. Jefferson signed with Penn State over Miami, Michigan, and Wisconsin. As a Nittany Lion, Shorter only played one as he was redshirted his first year on campus. As a redshirt-freshman, Shorter wasn’t very involved with the offense as he only had 12 catches for 137 yards.
Scouting Report
Shorter is a 6’4” 225 pound wide receiver. Shorter is a terrific athlete with great size and strength. He has a ton of raw talent but already does a lot of things well. Shorter is quick on his breaks. He’s does a great job of using his size and strength to his advantage in 50-50 balls. Shorter is also a good blocking receiver which is very important to Florida’s wide receiver coach and co-offensive coordinator Billy Gonzales. There’s a lot of like about Justin Shorter when you turn the film on. The Florida Gators have done a good job with getting the most out of their transfers since Dan Mullen arrived at Florida. This a huge get for Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators offense.
