Ohio State Names a Starter
Ryan Day has officially announced his starting quarterback. Justin Fields will take the field against the Florida Atlantic Owls in the first start of his college career. Fields a transfer from Georgia where he saw limited playing time as a freshman behind Jake Fromm. In his press conference Day said Fields separated himself from the other quarterbacks in the past week adding “I still don’t think he’s where he needs to be, but over the past week, I think he’s played at a starter level.”
Justin Fields Named Starter
A former five-star recruit, one of the highest-rated in Ohio State history, Fields was mostly used as a runner at Georgia. But when he did throw, he did it well going 27-39 for 328 yards and four touchdowns. In the spring game though Fields struggled at times completing just four passes on 13 attempts. One of those completions went for a 98-yard touchdown showing just how electric Fields can be. Fields had only been on campus for a short period of time for the spring game. He should be much more comfortable with the offense now. Fields addressed the media, as posted by NBC4 WCMH-TV in Columbus, OH. Stating he was “honored” to be named starter.
The Backups
Fields will take the first snap over other transfer quarterbacks Gunnar Hoak and Chris Chugunov. Day declined to name the backup saying that Hoak and Chugunov will “keep learning the offense” and that “They’ll keep working. As we get closer to the game, we’ll decide if Justin were to come out of the game, who would go in next.”. Hoak reportedly pushed Fields for the starting spot, expect him to be next up if Fields must leave the game. There is a good chance the backup(s) will see action week one as the Buckeyes are 27 point favorites against Florida Atlantic.
