LSU All-Decade Team

The LSU Football All-Decade Team is compiled of some of the greatest players in the program’s history. From 2009-now, these players have shown what it means to be a Tiger and wear the Purple and Gold with pride. Many players could be debated on the list, but it comes down to 10 players to make the cut. Going over a 10-year span can be difficult, but here at Last Word On College Football, we have narrowed it down. The 10 players to make up the LSU Football All-Decade Team put up outstanding numbers during their college careers.

The list is in no formal order, although a debate could be made at will.

Receivers Duo

Odell Beckham Jr. was a highlight reel during his LSU days. Beckham burst onto the college football scene with his unreal catches for the Tigers. A current All-Pro NFL receiver, Beckham bolstered the Tigers’ receiving corps from 2011-2013. He started nine of 14 games in his freshman season and finished with 41 receptions for 475 yards. His first touchdown came against the West Virginia Mountaineers in which the Tigers won that game 47-21 as the second-ranked team in the country. He finished his collegiate career with 2,340 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Jarvis Landry was Beckham’s right-hand man at wide receiver during his career. His immaculate catch against Arkansas in 2012 was one of his best during his LSU days. Finishing his career with 15 touchdowns and 1,809 receiving yards, Landry set his name into the LSU book of greats. The future NFL All-Pro left an outstanding legacy for future LSU wideouts which continues to show today.

Running Back Workload

Leonard Fournette is certainly one of the greatest running backs in Tigers football history. Watching his name into the record books, Fournette compiled an outstanding career that saw him get picked fourth overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017. Fournette brought a sense of urgency in LSU’s rushing game. His elusive power to take down defenders during runs was stunning to watch. Though his stats against Alabama weren’t great, the rest of his career was eye-popping. The former LSU tailback put his name near the top of the list for great LSU running backs.

Derrius Guice took over in 2017 after Fournette left for the NFL. However, in 2016, Guice earned the role of the starter when Leonard was injured. That season, against Texas A&M, Guice rushed for 285 yards, which was a new LSU record. He finished his career as the SEC leader for most games with 250 rushing yards, as he completed that feat three times in his career. Guice suffered injuries during his junior season, but that didn’t stop him from leading the charge in the backfield. He was drafted in 2018 by the Washington Redskins but suffered an injury during the pre-season which set him out for the full season.

Moreau’s Abilities

Foster Moreau is arguably the greatest LSU right end of the past decade. Though some fans will say he was underutilized, Moreau came up clutch many times when the Tigers were in the red zone. The play-calling at the time didn’t fit Moreau’s ability, but nothing stopped him from getting his fair share on the offense.

Leader on Defense

Devin White became one of the greatest players to ever suit up for the Tigers’ defense. During his career, White worked his tail off to become a great player. Becoming a top player on the team took time. However, he left LSU as one of the best linebackers the program has ever witnessed. Drafted fourth overall to Tampa Bay, the NFL has their hands full with White. Plus, he keeps the horses in the back. The Tiger faithful were enlightened to see one of the best linebackers play in Tiger Stadium.

The Real “DBU”

The LSU All-Decade Team continues on the defensive side. John Battle played one stellar career. Keeping the “DBU” debate going, Battle was a force to reckon with for opposing quarterbacks. During his Tigers career, Battle become a fan favorite quickly. Finishing his career with five interceptions and 144 tackles, Battle emerged onto the scene truly in 2017.

Continuing with “DBU”, Jalen Mills was another Tigers great in the secondary. The current Philadelphia Eagle compiled a stunning career in the Purple and Gold. Mills was dubbed as the “Green Goblin” due to his green hair during his college days. Jalen played lights out in the secondary, racking up six interceptions during his tenure. Drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016, Mills has continued his great success at the next level.

Delpit’s Breakout Season

Current LSU player Grant Delpit is still with the Tigers, but his 2018 breakout season gets him added to the list. He has become one of the top players on Dave Aranda’s defense in his short time. Heading into 2019, fans should keep an eye on Delpit to be the top defensive player in the country. He has shown that LSU is still “DBU”. Sorry, Florida State and Ohio State, the DBU title reigns in Baton Rouge. Delpit will likely enter the 2020 NFL Draft, but his Tigers career has been replete with productivity and he will add to it this season. His play could help Aranda’s defense be one of the best in the country.

Standout Secondary

Greedy Williams was another great LSU secondary player. His ability to intercept passes on the fly is what landed him on the list. Greedy’s name stands true. He was greedy with his interceptions at LSU, and his future with the Cleveland Browns should continue that trend. Williams finished his Tigers career with eight total interceptions. Though he redshirted, 2017 was his best year as a Tiger. He compiled six interceptions that season and became a fan favorite.

Tyrann Mathieu had a short stint at LSU that only lasted two seasons. During those seasons, the “Honey Badger” came alive. In the 2011 season opener against Oregon, Mathieu had a touchdown off a blocked punt that set the fans into a frenzy. He was dismissed in 2012, but his legacy will live forever. Honey Badger still doesn’t care. That’s the saying during his Tigers career. Although he had his troubles, his defensive abilities were some of the best LSU has ever seen.

Arden Key played all over the defense for LSU. During his career, he played linebacker and defensive end. Those two positions have been held by some of the greats in LSU history. Key played both with a ton of skill. The current Oakland Raider was a scary sight for opposing offenses. His ability to get off the edge in a burst helped with his highly touted skill set. Key can be added to the list of LSU greats on the defense for a number of reasons. However, his ability to play defensive line and linebacker helped set the tone.
