Kentucky Wildcats 2019 Recruiting Profile Jared Casey

Over the last decade Kentucky has become a new “Linebacker University.” Wesley WoodyardDanny Trevathan and Bud Dupree have all gone on to long NFL careers. Josh Allen won nearly every player of the year award in 2018 and looks to be a top five pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The player Mark Stoops hopes is next in line is Jared Casey.

The six foot two 225 pound outside linebacker ranks as the sixth best player in the state of Kentucky. In addition he ranks 15th at his position in the nation. Casey originally committed to Oregon on October 11th. However he decided to reopen his recruitment and pledged for Kentucky on December 6th.

Besides the Ducks Casey had offers from Cincinnati, Louisville and Wisconsin among others. As a senior at Louisville Ballard Casey made 70 tackles including 15 and a half for a loss and three sacks.

Following a 2018 recruiting class which Kentucky signed no players from in-state Stoops made the Commonwealth a priority. As a result Casey is one of five incoming players from the Bluegrass State. In addition four of the five come from Louisville, which of course is the Cats biggest rival.

How Casey Fits With Kentucky

As mentioned earlier Allen’s last game will be in the Citrus Bowl against Penn State. Kentucky also loses another linebacker in Jordan Jones. Middle linebacker Kash Daniel graduates next season which creates an opportunity for a lot of playing time.

The combination of Chris OatsDeAndre Square and Casey makes for another strong group of linebackers. A unit which certainly could add to the “Linebacker University” moniker. While listed as an outside linebacker the Cats may look at him in the middle. No matter what position he plays look for Casey to get on the field in 2019.
