Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators coaching staff have signed a top South Florida recruit. Four-star athlete and Florida commit Amari Burney has signed his NLI to the University of Florida. This is a big signing for the Gators as Burney is one of the top athletes in the country. The Gators are in need of safeties and linebackers as they really struggled last season without Marcell Harris, Marcus Maye, Jarrad Davis and Alex Anzalone. Burney is one of two athletes that is signing with Florida Gators alongside with Iverson Clement.
Who is Amari Burney?
Amari Burney is a four-star ATH out of Calvary Christian High School in Clearwater, Florida, having transferred from Clearwater Central Catholic. The Florida ATH commit is one of the top athletes in the country. He was a tough get for the Gators as Florida had to battle with Miami for him. Burney is a terrific athlete who could make a huge impact in this recruiting class. Burney chose Florida over Florida State, Miami and Ohio State. He had originally committed during the Jim McElwain era at Florida, but ket his commitment under Mullen.
According to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Burney is the 168th ranked recruit and the 15th ranked safety in the country. According to ESPN, Burney is the 59th ranked recruit and the seventh ranked athlete in the country. The Gators have added a really solid athlete who could really make an impact in the upcoming season. The Gators are in dire need of linebackers and the Gators coaching staff has told him that they might use him as an outside linebacker in Todd Grantham’s 3-4 defense.
