Tennessee Vols Sign Jackson Lowe

The early signing period starts on a high note for head coach Jeremy Pruitt as the Tennessee Vols sign Jackson Lowe, another top Georgia product.

Jeremy Pruitt’s first full recruiting cycle is taking shape during the early signing period. Tennessee signed four-star recruit Jackson Lowe on Wednesday. Lowe is a 6’5″, 235 pound tight end from Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Georgia. Lowe is rated as the 345th rated prospect nationally and the 12th ranked tight end in the nation in the 247Sports.com industry composite rankings.

Lowe is another example of what Pruitt is trying to mold his Tennessee team into. While Lowe isn’t the biggest tight end, his frame clearly has room to grow. He’s a prototypical tight end that’s probably a better run-blocker than pass catcher at this point in his career.

While Lowe only recorded 50 receptions in two seasons at Cartersville, over one-quarter of those receptions were touchdowns (13). Because of his height and versatility, he’s a matchup nightmare for defenses in the red zone.

Compliments and Complements

Tennessee has four tight ends that saw action this season returning for 2019. That group is led by Dominick Wood-Anderson and includes Eli Wolf, Austin Pope, and LaTrell Bumphus. Lowe has the ability to come in and contribute immediately, especially since he plans on enrolling in January. He complements the athleticism of Wood-Anderson nicely and is more versatile than the other three returning tight ends. When Lowe is ready, you can expect to see two-tight end sets in the red zone with both Wood-Anderson and Lowe as options for a quarterback.

He also allows Pruitt and his yet-to-be-named offensive coordinator some options. Pope was used as a fullback/H-back last season and Bumphus played defense at points in the past. If Lowe’s spring and summer development lands him in a rotation with Wood-Anderson and Wolf, Tennessee’s coaches could use Bumphus on a depleted defensive front and Pope can focus on his backfield duties.

The depth also allows for a possible redshirt season for Lowe as well, although that’s unlikely.

Georgia Pipeline

Lowe is one of the seven Georgia players expected to sign with Tennessee on Wednesday. Pruitt is not only maintaining Tennessee’s success recruiting the Peach State, but he’s deepening that success as well. No team is expected to sign more players from the top 20 rated recruits in the state of Georgia than the Tennessee Vols.

Lowe was a teammate of Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence at Cartersville High School.

Pruitt and his staff are trying to get Tennessee back to playing at a high level again. Jackson Lowe is a good starting point.
