An LSU SEC Championship berth is the goal for the 2018 season. For Ed Orgeron and the LSU Tigers, now is the time to claim glory. Orgeron has the Bayou Bengals in a solid spot given the enormous amount of talent the program has. With Steve Ensminger now calling the plays on offense, the Tigers are certain to be a conference contender. Though LSU does have a tough schedule slate, the Tigers’ chances of winning the SEC West will come down to the offensive production.
LSU Can Be SEC Championship Contenders in 2018
Orgeron has done a great job recruiting heading into his second year as head coach. The talent that the Tigers’ program receives is unlike any other. Just the state of Louisiana alone produces a whopping load of players to Baton Rouge. That is primarily because LSU is the flagship school in the state, and the program competes on a high level. Aside from recruiting, LSU has to produce on the field this season. With the opener against Miami in Arlington, Texas, the first win won’t come easy. The Tigers are a legitimate SEC West contender. But it all boils down to whether they can produce on the field to win enough games. Also, competing with top-dog Alabama has been LSU’s downfall since 2011.
Offense is Key To A Title
The Tigers’ offense has been statistically bad the past few seasons. There is no denying that fact. Under Matt Canada, LSU’s offense was close to the bottom in terms of efficiency. Under new OC Steve Ensminger, Tiger fans are hoping that changes by a big margin. The veteran has been brought in to revamp the offense and help Orgeron make this team a national championship contender. It has been a long 11 years for LSU fans, ever since they won the 2007 BCS National Championship. Looking ahead to 2018, Baton Rouge could become the hot spot for an SEC title. A new regime will be in place, and Tiger fans are ready for the transition from mediocre SEC team back up to perennial powerhouse. Once again, this all starts with working in the spring, especially the offensive unit. For LSU, spring practice kicks off on Sunday, March 11. The offense will be the key to success as said in the spring football storylines.
Dethroning the Giant
Since January 2012, LSU has been one step behind Alabama. Some Tiger fans may not want to hear that statement, but it’s true. When the Tide beat the Tigers 21-0 in the BCS National Championship Game, Nick Saban took over. Les Miles was always one step behind the Crimson Tide from that point up until his departure. Now under Orgeron, LSU is looking to end the streak this year. The annual rivalry game usually decides the SEC West, although that has not been the case in recent seasons. Orgeron wants to change that, however. If LSU can dethrone Alabama from being the king of the SEC West, then Ed Orgeron has done what he was brought in to do. End the streak against Alabama and return to the SEC Championship. In 2018, an LSU SEC Championship berth is the ultimate goal for the Tigers.
