LSU Tigers Program Trajectory Under Ed Orgeron

The LSU Tigers program trajectory is set to soar in Ed Orgeron‘s second year as head coach. Given the talent the Tigers have, LSU is set up for success in 2018. Despite a few staff changes, Death Valley will be rocking next season. Coach O has his program on the upside heading into a crucial 2018 season. The Tigers have a load of talent on both sides of the ball.

Saban Aftermath

When Nick Saban left Alabama, he handed the reigns over to Les Miles. In Miles’ 10-year tenure, the Tigers had valuable success. They won a BCS championship and a few SEC titles. They had accomplished the same feat under Saban. But when the greatest college football coach arrived in Tuscaloosa, LSU was doomed. What if Saban would have remained in Baton Rouge? That would have been a glorious time for Tigers fans. But since he left, LSU has been on a troubling trajectory ever since. The Tigers haven’t beaten Saban and Alabama since 2011.

New-Look Offense

Going into 2018, LSU will be led by a new offensive coordinator for the third straight season. Steve Ensminger was promoted to OC last week, and this hire has the fan base on their heels. Many fans aren’t happy with the hire, although former players are ecstatic for it. The 59-year old Ensminger will have a whopping load of talent to work with. The Tigers are looking to rebuild on offense with many starters graduating or leaving for the NFL.

Only Up From Here

Orgeron can only take the Tigers in one direction from here: up. The success the team had in 2017 can transition into next season. Although a new offense will be developed, the team has plenty of improvements to make before September. The intriguing part of all of this is that Orgeron hired from within for his play-caller. While many thought the Tigers would have a down year, they finished 9-4 this past season. With such given talent, especially on offense, 2018 has to be SEC Championship or bust for the Tigers.

Potential Title Run?

Next season will say a lot about Orgeron leading the Tigers. But the fans just cannot give up on Coach O. He is putting the pieces together for a potential title run for LSU, and that could come next season. With Myles Brennan being the potential quarterback, 2018 will be a fun year to watch LSU Football. The severity of Orgeron’s career hangs in the balance. His questionable hires have some of the fan base skeptical about his ability to live up to his word. But next season will be different. The Tigers are destined for a successful season. It all just hangs in the play-calling and the defense being elite again.

Orgeron’s Job Status

While his job is safe for now, that can quickly change. Orgeron promised to hire “elite” coordinators to lead the units. Matt Canada fell-out on offense. Dave Aranda is one of the top defensive coaches in the country. Now the program has Ensminger leading the offensive unit. Only time will tell if Orgeron made the right call. Tiger nation believes that Orgeron’s job hangs in the balance with Ensminger now being the OC.

Final Thoughts

2018 can be another successful season for the Tigers. Coach Orgeron has the program heading in the right direction. It may take a little while to get things rolling and everything into place, but the head man knows that he is doing the best thing for his team. LSU just develops great talent every season, and the fans are hoping that Brennan can become a mature leader for this program. So what is the ultimate goal heading into next season? The first goal the Tigers should have is to allow Ensminger to work in his offensive scheme through Spring/Fall Camp. Goal two has to be an SEC West title and an SEC Championship berth.
