Four-Star TE Kyle Pitts commits to the Florida Gators

Kyle Pitts

Coach Jim McElwain and the Florida Gators have added one of the top tight ends to their 2018 recruiting class. Four-star tight end Kyle Pitts announced on Thursday at 2pm that he will be committing to the Florida Gators. Pitts had a commitment video with Bleacher Report in which he picked the Gators over 19 other schools. The Pennsylvania native is the only tight end committed in Florida’s 2018 class. Pitts is the eighth commitment in the Florida Gators 2018 class. He is also the fifth offensive recruit in Florida’s class with Iverson Clement, Jalynn Williams, Curtis Dunlap Jr. and Corey Gammage.

Who is Kyle Pitts?

Kyle Pitts is a four-star tight end out of Archbishop Wood Catholic High School in Warminster, Pennsylvania. Pitts wasn’t always one of the top tight ends in the country but his rating took a huge jump after his junior season. The four-star tight end has received 20 offers from some of the top schools in country. Pitts has gotten offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Ohio State and Oklahoma. His four finalists were Florida, Georgia, Maryland and Virginia Tech. The Gators had an 87% chance of landing Pitts according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball. According to 247Sports, Pitts is the 160th best recruit in the country and the seventh ranked tight end in the nation. On ESPN, Pitts is the 153rd top recruit in the country and the second best TE-H in the nation. Florida’s tight end coach, Greg Nord, was Pitts’ primary recruiter.

Scouting Report

Kyle Pitts isn’t one of the top recruits for no reason. The 6’6” 240 pound tight end really showcased his skills and wowed people at The Opening Finals. Pitts was clocked running a 4.70 in the 40 yard dash. While he has solid speed for a tight end, Pitts is very versatile and line up pretty much anywhere. Pitts can line up in the traditional tight end spot and make an impact the passing game. He is quick off the line of scrimmage and is tight in his routes. He can also line up in the slot and become a mismatch. He’s too big for corners and too fast for linebackers. Pitts still needs to work on his strength and blocking ability but the Gators have really gotten themselves a good one. Pitts announced in June that he will be playing in the Under Armour All-American Game.
