Kansas vs. Samford Predictions + March Madness Betting Promos

The 2023 Champions Classic is here.

The 4-seed Kansas Jayhawks will head to Salt Lake City to take on the 13-seed Samford Bulldogs in the Delta Center as part of the first round of the Midwest Region.

Tip-off will be at 9:55 pm EST, as the talented but underperforming Jayhawks (22-10) will look to advance past the 2024 Southern Regular Season and Tournament Champion Bulldogs, who finished an impressive 29-5 on the year.

Kansas vs. Samford Odds

Kansas-Samford lines provided by BetMGM Sportsbook and current as of Thursday at noon ET.

  • Moneyline: Kansas (-310) • Samford (+250)
  • Spread: Kansas -7.5 (-110) • Samford +7.5 (-110)
  • Total Points: Over 153 (-110) • Under 153 (-110)

So far, despite the positive reports surrounding two star Kansas players, we’ve seen spread movement towards the underdog Samford as much as a full point at some sportsbooks. The total has drifted up a few points as well.

🔮 Kansas vs. Samford Prediction

Kansas 77, Samford 70

They may not be 100% healthy by the tip, but swirling rumors and last-dance motivation both lean towards the return of Dickinson and Kevin McCullar Jr. While Kansas has not come close to reaching its roster’s full potential, Samford proved earlier this year that stepping up in competition results in struggles for a small Southern Conference program.

The Bulldogs might start out with a spark if the first few threes go down, but I expect Kansas’ athletic advantages in transition and dominance in the paint to allow them to pull through in the second half. Samford may cover by the smallest of margins, but the Jayhawks should advance to the next line on your brackets.

✅ Kansas vs. Samford Best Bet

Hunter Dickinson: Over 11.5 Rebounds (+105)

BetMGM Sportsbook • 1 unit

Word from Coach Bill Self is that Hunter Dickinson has been practicing, and the plan is for him to play in the NCAA Tournament despite missing the Jayhawks’ Big 12 Conference Tournament disaster.

That would be a welcomed return for Kansas, and the big man should feast on the boards against a Samford team ranked 313th in the country in rebound rate while ranking very high in tempo and three-point attempts. That recipe bodes well for Dickinson to eclipse this number early in the second half.
