The San Jose Sharks have traded defenseman Jason Demers to the Dallas Stars for defender Brenden Dillon. The Sharks will also receive a third round pick in 2016 in the deal.

Dillon, 24, has played in 149 National Hockey League contests and has put up 26 points and 9 goals. Dillon, a B.C. native, debuted back in 2011-12, but established imself as an NHL regular only two seasons ago. He was signed in March of 2011 after going undrafted. He carries a $1.25 million cap hit through the end of the season, and is scheduled to be a restricted free agent this summer.
Demers, 26, has played in 300 games and put up 98 points and 16 goals while averaging 18:11 time on ice per game this season. Demers has played in San Jose for the past five seasons after being drafted 186th overall in 2008. He is signed through next season with a $2.21 million cap hit. If not signed to an extension he will become an unrestricted free agent in 2016.
Neither Demers nor Dillon have ever played with a different NHL team up until today. The trade has received mixed review from fans, many stating that it comes as a shock, while others believe that a change of scenery will be good for both defencemen.
Its been a busy two days of trades around the league, as this joins the Oilers-Canucks deal and the Canadiens-Ducks deal, to make it three trades in a little over 24 hours in the NHL.
