1. The AP voters couldn’t put off the inevitable any longer: LSU is your new #1
2. Speaking of LSU, Tyrann Mathieu is gonna make some NFL team very happy on draft day eventually. I’m hoping it’s my Giants.
3. Florida is for real. They’re quietly putting together a nice season in the weaker SEC East, which will belong either to them or South Carolina at the end of the year. I don’t know if it’s because of the popularity of track in Florida or what, but they always seem to have some incredibly fast WRs and DBs.
4. Minnesota, once again, is not for real. Losing to North Dakota State? At home? Are you kidding me? Big Ten bottom-feeders yet again. But Jerry Kill did a good job at Southern Illinois; hopefully with another recruiting class or two he can start to turn things around.
5. Notre Dame continues their mediocre season by eking out a win over a middle-of-the-pack Big East team in Pitt. Their upcoming schedule isn’t overly difficult; I think all of their games are winnable other than Thanksgiving weekend against Stanford. However, their propensity for ill-timed errors makes me think they’ll beat themselves in at least some of those games. (Sorry B.Kerr).
6. Clemson put together another big win this weekend, this one against a talented Florida State team. Along with Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech, they’re the class of the ACC.
7. South Florida is the last unbeaten team in the Big East, and probably the best team in the conference. However, you could make an argument for West Virginia. Losing to LSU is nothing to be ashamed of; I imagine the Tigers would beat South Florida as well.
8. Even the smaller and non-BCS schools have some super players. Do a youtube search for Bernard Pierce. Dude had five rushing TDs yesterday against Maryland. He plays for Temple. Yes, Temple. The same Temple that went from 1980 to 2009 without playing in a bowl game.
9. The Arkansas-Alabama game left me with more questions than statements. Is Alabama really that good? I find it hard to believe Arkansas is actually that bad. Hell, I picked the Hogs to win the game. Can either of those teams challenge LSU for the SEC West?
10. Oklahoma survived a scare from Missouri to prove that they, along with LSU, belong at the top of the polls.
