A very interesting Week 5 has concluded, with results that set up several tasty Week 6 matchups. Alabama at Ole Miss, Texas A&M at Mississippi State, and Stanford at Notre Dame highlight the upcoming week. All six teams either rested or won last week. Nobody can wait until Week 6, but first, let’s take a look at the LWOS Week 5 Rankings.
LWOS Week 5 College Football Rankings
| Oregon (5) | Most analysts are not sure what to make of the Ducks. They are 4-0. They had a great showing against Michigan State in Week two, then came dangerously close to losing to Washington State in Week 4. They have some issues on the offensive line, but Oregon remains a legitimate playoff contender. – Elijah Klein
| Alabama (3) | Blake Sims has settled in as the Tide’s new quarterback after torching the Gators a week ago. He will have his hands full in his first road start against a stout Ole Miss defense that has only allowed two touchdowns in the first four games. – Anthony Murphy
| Oklahoma (2) | The Sooners take on #25 TCU this Saturday and are faced with only one question: “How good is TCU?” The only way to find out is to play the game, but Oklahoma should win easily. – Connor Ferguson
| Florida State (1) | After dealing with a bit of adversity on the road, FSU continued their winning ways and remained undefeated. But sooner or later, they’ll get burned if they keep playing with fire. – Michael Gray
| Auburn (1) | The Tigers host #15 LSU in a crucial SEC West showdown on the plains. Nick Marshall figures to be the difference maker next Saturday. – Donald King
| Baylor | Baylor emerges from Week 5 with a victory against its first Big 12 foe, Iowa State. The Baylor offense shined behind Bryce Petty, putting up 49 points in only three quarters. Baylor heads into Texas next Saturday, in what will be a highly anticipated matchup for both teams. – Kaden Kotinek
| Texas A&M (1) | The Aggies survived versus Arkansas in overtime, despite being outplayed most of the game. Sumlin’s crew hits the road again to visit Mississippi St next week. The tests keep coming. – Donald King
| Notre Dame | Put on the big stage against Syracuse, Notre Dame took care of business, but now will be faced with a real test against #16 Stanford. – Connor Ferguson
| UCLA | After an unconvincing 3-0 start, the Bruins reinserted themselves into the CFP conversation with a 62-27 beatdown of Arizona State on the road. If they can avoid looking past Utah this week, a massive showdown awaits next Saturday in the Rose Bowl versus top-ranked Oregon. – John Bava
| Mississippi | After a 24-3 pounding on Memphis, the Rebels will take on #3 Alabama on the national stage (TV: CBS). – Connor Ferguson
| Michigan State | After an early loss to Oregon, Michigan State is looking steady in the Big 10. Can they make the playoffs with one loss out of a weak conference? – Mike Loveall
| Georgia | It’s no secret that Todd Gurley is the heart and soul of the Bulldogs. Can he continue to carry this team as Hutson Mason figures out how to be a productive QB? The October road schedule will answer that question. – Michael Gray
| Stanford | The Cardinal kept its PAC-12 North title hopes alive in Seattle last Saturday. Next up: a showdown with #8 ND in South Bend. Big game for both teams. – Donald King
| Mississippi State | Dan Mullen’s Bulldogs square off at home against the Aggies this coming week. We’ll learn a little more about each team in that critical SEC West matchup. – Donald King
| LSU | LSU got back on track this weekend before a brutal schedule to finish out the season. Are they too young to weather the storm? – Mike Loveall
| USC | USC’s defense responded well at home against a good Oregon State offense, limiting it to only three offensive points. The offense looked a little sluggish in the first half, but finished strong with a dominating victory. – Al Preziosi
| Wisconsin | The plan has been simple. Give the ball to Melvin Gordon. Averaging 343.3 rushing yards per game, Wisconsin faces Northwestern next, who knocked off undefeated Penn State over the weekend. – Anthony Murphy
| Nebraska | At 5-0, Nebraska is an interesting story in the Big 10. But have they really played a quality opponent yet? A win against Michigan State this weekend would go a long way in proving they’re legit. – Michael Gray
| BYU | The Cougars come off a bye week to face Utah State (2-2) on national television (ESPN) on Friday night. – Connor Ferguson
| Oklahoma State | Texas Tech put up a good fight on the road, but Oklahoma State pulled away in the fourth quarter. Each offense shined and eclipsed 500 yards of total offense in the shootout. – Al Preziosi
| Missouri | Huge bounce-back win for the Tigers against South Carolina on the road in Week 5. Mizzou takes a well-deserved rest in Week 6 before the SEC East stretch. – Donald King
| Kansas State | Kansas State blew out UTEP this week and the 3-1 Wildcats enter their second Big 12 game this weekend against an inconsistent Texas Tech team, who suffered a 10-point loss last week to Oklahoma State. A win this Saturday is critical for KState, as they enter a four game stretch that features #20 Oklahoma State, Texas, and #3 Oklahoma. -Kaden Kotinek
| Arizona State | The Sun Devils got housed in their own building by UCLA last Thursday without their starting quarterback. Now they have to travel to the Bruins’ bitter rival USC on Saturday and avoid feeling sorry for themselves, lest they get blown out again by a confident Trojans team. – John Bava
| East Carolina | Ruffin McNeil’s Pirates welcome the hapless SMU Mustangs to Greenville. This one will be over early. – Donald King
| South Carolina | South Carolina will need to bounce back from the heartbreaking loss at home to Mizzou. Kentucky is improved, but the Gamecocks should right the ship Saturday in Lexington. – Donald King
