Texas A&M has really caught the eye of college football fans with a great 4-0 start to the 2014 season. The same team who was supposed to be a terrible team this year is a top 5 team with a huge win against a good South Carolina team. This team was not given the time of day when it came down to beating South Carolina and now they have national championship talks going around. This team is really going to have to dig deep and continue their dominance throughout the season to become the champions of college football. How they have to get there is the hard part.
Texas A&M National Championship Chances
Texas A&M is coming off of arguably the greatest quarterback they have ever had in school history in Johnny Manziel. However, right now Johnny Manziel has not been forgotten, but he is not on anybody’s mind. Why? The reason is Kenny Hill, or how he prefers to go by, Kenny Trill. This guy is having to fill shoes that no one on earth would have had the guts to fill. How he filled them was with a 52-28 domination against South Carolina in Columbus. Kenny Hill looked calm and composed against the Gamecocks and it has really showed not only in that game, but in every other game they have played. He now has the team sitting at 4-0 and ranked 6th in the country. The three week span of easy teams is now over for A&M. SEC West play begins now.
Texas A&M kicks off SEC West play next week against Arkansas. The former SWC rivals will be playing in Dallas, Texas due to the contract the two teams signed in 2008 to play in Cowboys stadium for ten years. Arkansas is not an easy team, but A&M is the better team. Arkansas got destroyed against Auburn Week 1 and they haven’t played anyone decent since then. Texas A&M is heading into this game with their heads held very high and maybe a little chip on their shoulder, considering this is the best start the Aggies have had since 2006. The Aggies should come away with a win here and head into Mississippi State with a 5-0 record. This is where things get tough for the Aggies. After seeing the Bulldogs head into LSU and beat the Tigers, Mississippi State should be very high on A&M’s radar. Just because A&M has a great defensive line and a great offense, A&M should walk away the victor and continue their undefeated season. Sitting at 6-0 the Aggies come back home and take on the mighty Rebels of Mississippi. Ole Miss really hasn’t proven how good they are. When they take on Alabama the week before the A&M game, that should determine how good the Rebels are indeed. If they can beat Alabama, then Ole Miss will be a top 5 team heading into College Station. Right now A&M looks like the better team due to who they have beaten. Now I know South Carolina isn’t the number one team or even a top five team for that matter, but they did beat Georgia. Georgia beat Clemson, who almost beat Florida State. No, I’m not saying A&M basically beat all those teams, but they did destroy a very good team. A&M should beat Ole Miss and continue their winning ways.
Now A&M is sitting at 7-0 heading into Tuscaloosa. Now A&M should be just as scared of Mississippi State as they are of Alabama. I can easily see A&M beating the Crimson Tide and becoming 8-0. If A&M can just stop the run against Alabama, it should be a win for the Aggies. Now sitting at 8-0, the schedule gets a lot less stressful for the Aggies. The hardest game after Alabama is at Auburn. This year’s Auburn team is nowhere near as good as last year’s Auburn team. What I mean by that is the Tigers will not win this game, or at least they shouldn’t. A&M is more talented on both offense and defense and that has shown on Auburn’s offense and defense. Kansas State left nineteen points off the board. In other words, they could have scored nineteen more points in the game, which would have beaten Auburn 33-20. Auburn got too lucky last year and just got lucky again this year. You can’t get lucky that many times. I look forward to Auburn losing at least two to three games this season. So now A&M sits at 10-0 with wins versus Louisiana Monroe and Auburn in consecutive weeks. Now, they head back home to finish their season against Missouri and a Thanksgiving game at home against LSU. Missouri will not be a big threat to the Aggies, but it won’t be easy. I like A&M to win both of these games and head into the SEC championship game against none other than South Carolina. The rematch.
It would be a Hollywood script happening in real life. The two teams that kicked off the college football season will end it with the biggest conference championship game in the NCAA. Texas A&M did it once and they can do it again. Texas A&M, now SEC champions, head into the College Football Playoff as the number 1 team in college football, where they will look to win the first national championship for the first CFP season in history. If Texas A&M can go undefeated and win in the toughest conference in college football, they can definitely go in and win the national championship. It’s a long shot to go unbeaten in the SEC, but this looks to be the year for A&M. Finally, this looks to be the year for the Aggies to capture that elusive championship.
