Report: Adrian Peterson Indicted on Charges of Reckless or Negligent Injury to a Child

Superstar Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted in Montgomery County, Texas on charges of Reckless or Negligent injury to a child.  The story was first reported by Mark Berman of Fox26.

At this point it is unclear as to what the charges are related to, or if they are in any way related to the death of Peterson’s 2-year-old son last October.  Robert Joseph Patterson, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, was charged in relation to that death.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports has confirmed the report and indicates that Peterson must now turn himself into police in Texas. It is believed that he is in the process of doing so.

Peterson’s Vikings are scheduled to play the New England Patriots on Sunday. At this point, his status for that game is unclear. The Vikings have not commented yet, but Glazer is reporting that the coaches and management are currently meeting to try and find out what the situation is, and decide on Peterson’s status.

These charges create another blackmark for the NFL in a week where the league has been losing the PR war on the highly controversial Ray Rice situation. Having this land on Roger Goodell’s desk is likely the last thing he wanted this weekend.

Update: Ian Rapoport of the NFL is reporting that the arrest is based on Peterson disciplining his son with a switch (ie a thin tree branch.

Update 2: Peterson has been deactivated for this week’s game.
