The Ottawa Senators and restricted free agent goaltender, Robin Lehner, have agreed to a new three year $6.675 million contract, for an annual cap hit of $2.225 million.

Lehner, only 23 years of age, had a record of 12-15-6 last season. The Swedish goaltender’s career record stands at 21-24-10 with a .918 save percentage and a 2.82 goals against average. Last season, Lehner set a franchise-high record of 53 saves in a single game during a 5-4 shootout loss to the New York Islanders and then later became the first goaltender in franchise history to face greater than 50 shots in one game and earn a victory in a 5-4 shootout win over the St.Louis Blues.
Lehner, along with Craig Anderson, formed one-half of the goaltenders that remained in Ottawa after Ben Bishop was deemed the odd-man out and traded off to Tampa Bay at the trade deadline in 2013. Management believes Lehner has high potential and could one day lead the Senators as their number one netminder. This contract gives him 3 years to prove his worth in the nation’s capital at a minimal cost.
With Ottawa’s other goaltender Anderson on his last year of his contract, it’s possible we could see Lehner get a push this upcoming season and start more games for the Senators organization.
