Fresh off a 6-0 start to the season, the Sooners will look to continue their quest for a perfect season. For a team loaded with talent at every position and a schedule as soft as this to begin the season, it is no surprise that the Sooners are 6-0 and 3-0 in the Big 12. The second half will be a bit more challenging, but a lot of the big matchups are in Norman. The second half of the season gets started with a home game against Kansas St., followed by a road game at Iowa St., and a home game against Baylor. The last quarter of the season features two tough games that starts with a road game at Texas Tech, followed by two home games against Kansas and Oklahoma St. Let’s take a look at how the Sooner season ends.
Oklahoma Sooners Schedule (Games 7-12)
Saturday, October 18th: vs Kansas St. (Time TBD)
Kansas State is always a tough team to play against no matter how good or bad the talent on the field is. Bill Snyder’s boys will always give their all and that alone will keep this game closer than most people might think.
Prediction: Oklahoma is home and just the downright better team, so I see a double-digit victory for the Sooners in this one.
Record: 7-0 (4-0 in Big-12)
Saturday, November 1st: at Iowa St. (Time TBD)
Iowa St. is going to struggle in 2014 and that does not bode well for their chances in this game. Trevor Knight and the boys will be rolling coming into Ames and will look to continue that here.
Prediction: Plain and simple, Iowa St is not going to be a very good team this year and the undefeated Sooners should be able to handle the Cyclones pretty easily here.
Record: 8-0 (5-0 in Big-12)
Saturday, November 8th: vs Baylor (Time TBD)
This will be the game of the year in the Big 12 with the high-powered Baylor Bears vs the Oklahoma Sooners. The winner of this game will be in the drivers seat in the conference with a month remaining. Baylor returns some key talent, but lost a lot of talent as well, so that could be a huge factor.
Prediction: The Sooners win this game and the only reason is because the game is in Norman. Not much separates these two teams, so the home field advantage could be the determining factor.
Record: 9-0 (6-0 in Big-12)
Saturday, November 15th: at Texas Tech (Time TBD)
TRAP GAME! This is a prototypical trap game in college football. A team comes off a huge win and has to go on the road to face a team that they are better than. This game should be a battle to the very end and whichever team has the ball last will win.
Prediction: The team that holds the ball last will win and that will be the Red Raiders. Davis Webb will lead Texas Tech to a huge upset over the Sooners and end their dream of a perfect season.
Record: 9-1 (6-1 in the Big-12)
Saturday, November 22nd: vs Kansas (Time TBD)
The Jayhawks will be in the midst of a brutal stretch and will be just the team the Sooners will want to play coming off of their first loss of the season. The Sooners will still be in the running for the Big 12 championship, so there is a lot on the line during this one.
Prediction: Last time I checked, Charlie Weis is still the coach for the Jayhawks, which doesn’t bode well for Kansas. Big blowout here.
Record: 10-1 (7-1 in the Big-12)
Saturday, December 6th: vs Oklahoma St (Time TBD)
Oklahoma sure got lucky getting most of their tough matchups at home in 2014. This will be a typical slugfest for the entire game and it will be close throughout. The key will be the Sooner defense in this one and if they perform, the Cowboys might have no chance.
Prediction: The Big 12 championship will be on the line here for the Sooners and they will play like it is. Sooners win late to stay alive for the college football playoffs.
Record: 11-1 (8-1 in Big-12)
It might not have been the undefeated season Sooner fans had hoped for, but it is another Big 12 championship and keeps the Sooners very alive for the inaugural college football playoffs. It will be tough for a one-loss Big 12 team to get in over a one-loss SEC team, or even a one-loss Pac-12 team this season, but the Sooners will be hoping that since they are the Big 12 champions, they will get the edge.
My guess is that Auburn and Alabama for the SEC, either UCLA or Oregon from the Pac-12, and Ohio St. get in over a one-loss Oklahoma Sooner team, but anything can happen with these playoffs and that is why everyone is so excited that they have finally arrived.
