Most Important Statement From Cal Bears Media Day

I can’t stress how much Jared Goff and Sonny Dykes have such similar minds. It certainly showed in the Cal Bears Football Media Day.

The most important thing that they told the media was obvious: Moving on from the horrendous season that the Cal Bears had.

“I can’t stress how happy we are to have last year in the past. It’s behind us. We’re no longer thinking about last season,” said the sophomore standout Jared Goff.

Goff threw for a record breaking 3,508 yards as a freshman, and hopes to build from his strong first year.

“We took a lot out of [our first season, we] learned from it. But you’ve got to put it behind you and move on. I think our players have probably done that in some ways than our coaching staff has,” Dykes said following Goff.

The relationship between these two is simple: Help me, help you. Because the fact of the matter is, if Goff doesn’t have a successful year then there is no way that California Bears Football will succeed. Dykes’ unique offense is all based on how the quarterback does. Dykes needs Goff.

On the other hand, Jared isn’t one of those players that look only towards their future into the NFL. He wants to win, and he needs Sonny Dykes to coach the team well. Their record will need to improve.

“In our profession, you are kind of what your record says you are. You go from being pretty smart to being pretty dumb overnight,” Dykes said. “It’s a tough thing to live with. It’s a hard thing for a coach to go through.”

Winning, however won’t be easy. They are slated with a tough schedule, which is pretty deserving since they are in one of the hardest conferences in college football.

The Golden Bears will play Pac-12 opponents Colorado, Washington, UCLA and Stanford in Berkeley, host Oregon on Friday, Oct. 24 at the new Levi’s® Stadium, and visit Arizona, Washington State, Oregon State and USC.

Nine of Cal’s 2014 opponents played in bowls last season, with six of them coming out victorious.
