The LWOS CFL experts are at it again. Here are our power rankings as we see them for Week 5.
Week 5 CFL Power Rankings
1) Edmonton Eskimos
Number one on our minds are the green and gold. Their 4-0 start has put the rest of the league on notice, especially after a suffocating victory against Winnipeg last week. The real test is this week when the Stamps come to town.
2) Calgary Stampeders
In what looked like a minor stumble in our minds this week, the Stamps survived with a 10-7 win against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. This week they have a chance to rebound as they have a shot at the top dog in our rankings. The game against Edmonton should be the game of the week.
3) Winnipeg Blue Bombers
They didn’t really show up last week at home. Is this a minor bump in the road, with one of those losses that just happens? Or is this something more. It does not get any easier for the blue and gold this week: they’re on the road against the suddenly potent Lions. Let’s see how they respond after the poor performance against Edmonton.
4) B.C Lions
They started out poorly with Travis Lulay home in bed and two straight losses to begin the campaign. Much has changed since then: backup Kevin Glenn hit his stride, and the Lions took out Saskatchewan on the road and Montreal in a home game. They’re behind in the west but they’re definitely for real, and could crack the top 3 any week.
5) Ottawa Redblacks
The Redblacks have only one win, but they have looked better every week. Now that their home field is up and running, they’ll be a team to contend with in the East – if they keep improving as a team. They were expected to be basement dwellers this year, and the season is still young.
6) Toronto Argonauts
Fans of the Argos thought things were turning around when they trounced the Roughriders at Rogers Center, but that lopsided win is their only victory so far, and the only outing where Ricky Ray wasn’t the league’s Most Overrated Player this year. They’ll have to turn things around quickly, because there isn’t much room to fall down the ladder.
7) Saskatchewan Roughriders
Prior to their bye week, the Riders looked weak out there: their offense wasn’t clicking and the defense was shady. Do not panic though, Rider Nation, as your team has a tendency to come out of nowhere to win.
8) Montreal Alouettes
Getting beat up 43-5 on the road in BC, the Alouettes looked like a pee wee football team. Troy smith couldn’t complete a pass and the defense was Swiss cheese. A bye week in week 5 may just help them recover.
9) Hamilton Tiger-Cats
I don’t think it can get any worse when your field goal holder can’t control the ball in dry conditions, the play that very well might have cost the Ticats the game. They’re on their third QB now with Dan LeFevour. Hamilton just can’t get any worse than this.
