After days of speculation and rumors, the Brooklyn Nets have finally agreed to a deal that will send head coach Jason Kidd to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for two future second-round draft picks.
After originally offering just a 2015 second-round pick for Jason Kidd, Milwaukee eventually gave in by agreeing to also give up their 2019 second-rounder. The Nets had asked for a 2015 1st rounder when negotiations first began.
Milwaukee has yet to fire their current head coach, Larry Drew, and management has reportedly not had any contact with him whatsoever throughout this entire process.
Kidd, who just finished his first year as coach since retiring as a player following the 2013-14 NBA season, fell out of the good graces of Nets’ management after a failed power play in which he had demanded to take full control over the team’s basketball operations. With the highest-paid roster in the league last season, Kidd led Brooklyn to a 44-38 regular season record in the woeful Eastern Conference, and a narrow seven game first round win over the Toronto Raptors. The Nets made it to the second round of the playoffs before losing to the Miami Heat in five games.
According to reports, the Bucks have not talked to Jason Kidd about the possibility of him running Milwaukee’s basketball operations, and team general manager John Hammond’s job is not believed to be in any jeopardy at this time. The Bucks were the NBA’s worst team last season and drafted Jabari Parker second overall in the NBA Draft.
With Brooklyn’s coaching job now vacant, former NBA coach Lionel Hollins and former CSKA Moscow coach Ettore Messina have emerged as the leading candidates for the position.
