With the season recently coming to a close and Cardiff City finishing on the wrong end of the Premier League table they set out to complete a successful bounce back mission this coming season in the Sky Bet Championship.
There has been comings and not many goings at Cardiff the last week and a half. Cardiff have already made three signings despite the transfer window not opening until the 1st of July. Those being Adam Le Fondre from Reading on an undisclosed fee, Federico Macheda who was left out of contract by Manchester United and Javi Guerra who completed the move following his pre contract agreement to join the bluebirds from Real Valladolid in January.
It has been noticed in almost all of the signings Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made, he has been mentioned as one of the main reasons players are choosing to come to Cardifff. He was described as a “childhood hero” by Adam Le Fondre post signing.
Cardiff striker Fraizer Campbell and goalkeeper David Marshall have also been linked to moves away from the club with apparent interest from Hull City, Sunderland, Newcastle and Leicester apparently seeking the striker’s signature. Whereas Marshall has been subject to interest from Arsenal following the imminent departure of Łukasz Fabiański
These signings are seen as a signal of intent by Cardiff City fans and seem to be quite pleased that their business is being wrapped up nice and early, ready for next season. It was also no mystery that Cardiff were missing goals last season and that ultimately proved to be fatal. But with so many strikers coming in with good scoring records for previous clubs, bluebird’s fans are hoping for a season where goals aren’t a scarcity.
Feelings amongst Cardiff fans suggest that they are more than willing to give Ole a shot at next year’s campaign and that his collection of new signings paired with the ones he made in January and signings prior to his arrival will offer a squad with more than enough quality to bounce straight back, coherent with the right management.
Ole has been praised for his January signing of Norwegian starlet Mats Møller Dæhli. He was a breath of fresh air in the latter stages of Cardiff’s Premier League campaign, showing crisp touches, fantastic runs, and the ability and confidence to shoot. He has been hailed by Cardiff fans alike as their best young talent and feel they have to hold on to him, not only for next season, but in the long term.
Cardiff are also having some construction completed following the club hosting the UEFA Super Cup on the 12th of August 2014, which will see Real Madrid and Sevilla battle it out for the trophy following both of their successful European campaigns. The stadium expansion adds an extra 5,000 seats to the already modern Cardiff City Stadium. This is another signal of intent that Vincent Tan, Cardiff City’s controversial owner wants to fire Cardiff City back into the Premier League after failing to survive upon their first attempt.
