Will Hill was well on his way to becoming a star for the New York Giants. Now that ascension may never be fully realized. Today, the beleaguered Hill has learned that his appeal was rejected, and that he will miss the first six games of the 2014 season due to a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, which means he won’t see the field in a regular season game until Oct. 19 in Dallas to face the Cowboys.
This is Hill’s third violation of the league’s substance-abuse policies. In 2012, Hill was suspended for four games for violating the performance-enhancement drug policies, where it’s presumed he was using Adderall. Last season, he sat out the first four games for a substance-abuse violation.
Of course, it is hard to get confirmation in any of these cases as to what the player was actually taking, due to the fact that the teams and the league are prohibited from revealing it under the terms of the CBA and the drug policy. As a result the only side of the story we hear is that of the player.
It certainly brings into question whether Will will be given another chance to continue his career with the Giants, and cutting him appears to be a very real possibility. If he remains a member of the team, he will have sat out 14 games due to suspension over the last three NFL seasons.
