Kevin Love rumors heating up, Wizards in the mix

Kevin Love has been wanting a trade for sometime now and it would appear that this offseason he is getting his wish. Kevin Love rumors have been rampant and he has been linked to many different teams who are interested in bringing in the all-star power forward. Rumors are that the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, and others have been inquiring about Love.

Of course, when a franchise defining power forward gets put on the trading block any GM should always make a call and see what the asking price is. However in recent days rumors out of Washington suggest that there is more than just tire kicking going around. According to various reports the Wizards have looked into Love, and are very interest in making a deal here.

Now just how true are these reports, and how will the Wizards add a piece like that with the players they have now? Well, according to rumors the Wizards have offered the Timberwolves anyone on the roster except Bradley Beal and John Wall. Who could the Wizards package then if they’re not giving up their two best players? This will certainly be extremely difficult, as the T-Wolves need to get some quality pieces if they are moving the face of their franchise.

One trade scenario that has been floated out there would see the Wizards sending Otto Porter, Andre Miller, Nene, and a sign and trade deal with Trevor Ariza and a 1st round pick in a couple of years for Kevin Love and Kevin Martin. Such a deal would leave the Wizards with more to fill.  The team would have to find another backup point guard and we know how well Ernie Grunfield has done with filling that role. The team would also have to admit another draft mistake, and would need more depth at the small and power forward positions. The likelyhood of the Wizards making this trade is very low and I don’t think the Timberwolves would give up Martin with Love for such a package and be willing to wait for their draft pick.

Of course, a starting lineup of Wall, Beal, Martin, Love, and Marcin Gortat would be great, but would leave the Wizards bench dry and the team without much money under the cap system to fix it. I just don’t see Kevin Love in a Wizards jersey any time soon, as fans we will have to wait for the Kevin Durant 2016 rumors now.
