Premier League Gold Unveiled

It came with little surprise that Liverpool goal-scoring machine, Luis Suarez, picked up the Premier League’s Golden Boot earlier today.  This honour is in addition to two he already one noting his fantastic season: he was recognised as England’s top player by both fans and football writers.

To go with a fantastic 31 goals, the Uruguayan assisted on 12 more, adding a second dimension to an already wonderful arsenal of skills.  His nearest competitor for the Golden Boot was his own teammate, Daniel Sturridge, who was on the receiving end of several of those 12 assists.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers offered praise to his star striker and his comeback season that helped the Reds stay in contention for the league right through the final game of the year saying,  “Luis Suarez was at a real low point last summer but the power of Liverpool FC convinced him to stay. He’s been outstanding.”

Meanwhile, in news that should shock no one, Suarez was also named to Uruguay’s preliminary 25-man squad for the World Cup in Brazil in an announcement made by boss Oscar Washington Tabarez on Thursday. Liverpool team-mate Sebastian Coates joins Suarez on the team.

Suarez wasn’t the only one to walk away with some Premier League gold. Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny ended up splitting the Golden Glove award with London rival Petr Cech  of Chelsea. Each keeper finished with 16 clean sheets, with the Polish Szczesny having played 37 matches to Cech’s 34.
