Christian Eriksen Pulling the Strings for Tottenham

Tottenham beat Southampton in a thrilling 3-2 comeback.  Christian Eriksen had a brilliant game, pulling the strings for Spurs in what is becoming a common theme.

Going two-nil down at the start was a huge blow, but Spurs struck back. Within three minutes of Southampton scoring, Eriksen scored the goal that staged the big comeback. This did not fully start straight away, however; the equalising goal coming a minute after the second half had started. Again, Eriksen popped up at the back post to put home a good ball from Soldado–which is quite ironic as Soldado is usually the man in the box.  At Spurs though, his style of play has changed to better suit the Premier League. Later on in the game in the 91st minute, Eriksen set up Gylfi Sigurðsson to smash home the winner. White Hart Lane erupted. What a fantastic comeback for the Lilywhites and oh what a glorious day for the club.

Christian Eriksen was involved in all the goals, whether he was the scorer or the creator. Many pundits have declared him, as well as the other summer signings as ‘flops’, but yesterday they proved otherwise. In regards to Eriksen, he has found his stride over the past few weeks and has been playing at quite a high level.

The Dane created 7 chances in the last match, more than what Lambert and Rodriguez created combined.  For a side that has struggled to find the twine, he has become a crucial part of the line-up making him a bargain for Tottenham.  Levy really did well to bring him in for such a good price.

Should Spurs build a team around him? Yes.

Eriksen is only 22, which in football is still very young indeed. To build a team around him would be a sound idea for Levy and Co. Although in modern football, loyalty is sometimes swayed by the never ending desire for Champions League football and higher salaries. But, if surrounded by quality players, a team can show a top talent they are serious about building a side to compete in top-flight football for years to come. This is what needs to happen at Tottenham.  With some players who have yet to find their stride, it is safe to say the club has underachieved this season. It is also safe to assume that next season as this year’s crop of new players find their groove, Spurs will only get better.

And it’s all going to start with Christian Eriksen.
