This week’s look around the NBA to determine who has been great (tops) and not so great (flops) in the last seven days.
Tops
Lebron James- The four-time MVP scored a career high 61 points against the Bobcats, beating the Heat franchise record and recording the second best scoring performance of the season (behind Melo’s 62). Shooting a staggering 22/33 from the field, Lebron seems to enjoy having to wear his clear mask after the NBA asked him to quit wearing his rather ominous black mask.
Allen Iverson- Philadelphia honored the NBA legend with the retirement of his famous #3 jersey. A grand ceremony enabled the whole basketball world to pay its homage to one of the most talented players the NBA has ever witnessed.
Kyle Korver- This one is a rather odd “Top”; Kyle Korver ended his record-breaking streak of making at least one three-pointer per game on Wednesday against the Blazers. Well done to him for such an incredible streak, that will undoubtedly take many years to be beaten. Impossible to not mention this event, and impossible to put it in the “Flop” category.
Joakim Noah- The French big man is playing unstoppable basketball right now, recording two triple-doubles in his last three games, leading Chicago to eight wins in their last ten, a vital run for the Bulls, who are now only one game behind 3rd place Toronto.
Flops
Indiana Pacers- A two-game losing streak, with only six wins in their last 10 games means they are now level on defeats with rivals Miami (both on 15 losses). Though they are the first and only team to have secured a playoff spot so far, Indiana will need to up their game if they want to enter the playoffs with the number one seed in the east.
Philadelphia 76ers – Impossible to not mention this franchise when talking about flops. Their losing streak has increased to 15 games now, and to be quite frank they do not look set to record a win any time soon, even though they face Utah next, which potentially could see them finally snap this rather embarrassing run.
Gerald Wallace – The 31-year-old will not gear up for the rest of the season due to a left knee and ankle injury. A blow for the Celtics, who are already having a nightmare season, 12th in the East with a disastrous record of 20-41.
