Athleticism: C
Has adequate athleticism for a player of with a stout frame. Fairly good range to the sideline but by no means great. Does not show much burst moving in a straight line. Only adequate changing directions and can get burned on play action fakes and in coverage.
Power: C-
Prefers not to take on blocks if he can help it. Has trouble disengaging once he gets locked up. Lets the blocker dictate the play. Does not show the kind of pop when taking on blocks that a player with his size usually possesses. Is at his best when he can come to the ballcarrier unblocked and is a reliable tackler. More of a run-and-hit linebacker. Angles in pursuit are good.
Technique: B+
Is a heavy, physical tackler. Can give a hard, clean hit without much momentum. Wrap tackler who squares up and rarely has a missed tackle. Generally halts ballcarriers in their tracks. Needs to play with better hand use and get lower when taking on blocks.
Third-Down: D+
Flashes very good timing on blitzes. Does not have the explosion or power to consistently defeat blocks as a pass rusher and relies more on being able to stay unblocked. Shows adequate athleticism to drop into short and longer zones, but does not make much of an impact doing so.
Intangibles: C+
Lacks a fiery on-field demeanor, and does not give full effort at all times. Has a good sense of timing pre-snap, but can get fooled on occasion. Can get lost on the field at times, and seemed to give up on some plays. Extremely durable, and played in all 52 games during his career.
Red Flags: None
Bottom Line: Brown has some limitations in terms of height, athleticism, and his own effort that likely will keep him from developing into an above average starter in the league. However, his abilities as a sure, physical tackler will earn him time in a lineup, but will be the type of player a team is looking to replace. Seems best suited to play for a team that employs a 40 front.
