Athleticism: D-

Has below average range to the sideline and does not move well laterally. Slow to change directions, especially when he has to plant with his left knee, a lingering effect the ligament tears he sustained in 2011. However, still is excellent moving downhill and can close on the play nicely.

Power: B

Has a warrior mentality against the run. Plays with power and can jolt back offensive linemen. Can shoot gaps and plays behind the line of scrimmage with regularity. Tackled both Myles Jack and Brett Hundley at the same time after defeating a block vs. UCLA in 2013. Plays with good hustle and angles in pursuit but can still be outpaced due to a lack of foot speed. Can be eliminated from the play when he bites on play action. Could protect his legs better against cut blocks.

Technique: B+

Brings pop in his tackles. Plays face-up and is a sure thing as a tackler. Can knock the ballcarrier backwards and stop running backs with a head full of steam in their tracks when he gets a step. Shows good hand fight and leverage to take on blocks.

Third-Down: B-

Adequate in short zones, but lacks the athleticism to make an impact, and does not have much potential in man. Did not record an interception in five years with the Cardinal. Has made his mark as a blitzer. Excellent anticipation to shoot gaps and has the burst to close on the QB. Does not have the speed and agility to rush the edge effectively and is too reliant on coming upfield unblocked to get pressure.

Intangibles: A-

Excellent pre-snap anticipation and is moving before the ball. Motor runs hot on the field and has the mindset of a tone setter. Relentless. Made 37 career starts and was a key contributor in all five years when he was on the field.  Regarded as a high character player. Was arrested for a DUI in 2012. Showed toughness coming back from a devastating knee injury to play in all 27 games the following two seasons.

Red Flags: Long-Term Durability (Left Knee)

Bottom Line: The main focus with Skov is on his left knee. Two years removed from three surgeries and he has yet to recover his 2011 athletic form which raises concerns about whether he can sustain another lower body injury. Given his style of play it seems inevitable that Skov will get dinged up, but his toughness allows him persevere. If Skov can stay relatively healthy in the NFL he should be able to vie for a job as solid starter, but will never be a star. Fits best in a 34 scheme.

Comparison: Nico Johnson

Grade: 8.1 (3rd Round)
