It has come across many other news outlets that Shane Del Rosario has passed away yesterday, December 9, 2013. Approximately two weeks ago Del Rosario was found in his room motionless and taken to a hospital where it was discovered he had gone into cardiac arrest at some point that day. Shane was placed on life support and there was little to no hope of survival. There were reports all through the week that he had died and that he was showing signs of improvement, however the real story was simply that he was fighting and maintaining his levels. A few days ago it was reported that Del Rosario was breathing on his own and showing brain activity, which was a miracle in itself. He was taken off life support and even showed responsiveness in his hands, but that positivity was lost yesterday. It is believed by his management team that Del Rosario had a rare heart condition known as Long QT Syndrome.
Shane was undefeated until his UFC debut where he dropped two consecutive losses to fellow up-and-comer Stipe Miocic and UFC veteran Pat Barry. Del Rosario was a decorated Muay Thai fighter, winning both the 2007 and 2008 WBC Muay Thai World Heavyweight Championship. He amassed an eight win and one loss record in Muay Thai Kickboxing and an MMA record of 11-2 with all 11 wins coming by way of (T)KO or submission. Shane also graduated from UC Irvine with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He was only 30 years old.
Our thoughts go out to the family, friends, and training partners of Shane del Rosario.
