Watch: Rory Mcllroy Snaps at Heckler at Torrey Pines

During the final round at Torry Pines for the Genesis Invitational, Rory Mcllroy reportedly snapped at a fan who shouted out to him “Blame your caddie!”  Mcllory then snapped back and said, “Shut the f*** up!”  Now why did he snap like this, and why did that fan throw shade at Mcllroy’s caddie?

Rory Mcllroy’s Caddie

The caddie in question is Mcllroy’s long-time friend Harry Diamond.  They met back in Northern Ireland when they were both kids.  They often think of each other as family and staunch defenders of each other while not afraid to speak up to each other.  Diamond only got his role by Mcllroy’s side in 2017 after his last caddie left.  Despite this history, Diamond frequently receives criticism because Mcllroy hasn’t won a major since the 2014 PGA Championship.

McIlroy Heckler: What Happened At Torrey Pines

During the final round of the Genesis Invitational Rory Mcllroy struggled with a putt.  He was lined up for a birdie and just missed it.  This is when the fan heckled Mcllroy and said “Blame your caddie!”  This of course struck a nerve with Mcllroy given his history with his caddie and is why he snapped back and dropped an F-bomb.  This was reported by golf reporter Dan Rapaport in a live tweet after it happened.  He ended the tweet by saying, “He’s got zero time for any Harry Diamond slander.”

Digesting the Fan’s Mcllroy Insults

Rory Mcllroy hasn’t won a major since 2014.  All four of his major wins were with his previous caddie.  He has won plenty of tournaments in the time since then.  Fans often suggest that Mcllroy might be able to up his game with a new caddie.  Mcllroy disagrees and points to the victories he has had since 2017, most recently at Pebble Beach.  During a victory speech, he gave a shout-out to Diamond.

“I want to give a shout-out to Harry, he’s been with me every step of the way for the last seven years now.”

He calls the criticism levied at his caddie unwarranted, he doesn’t understand why fans are like this towards Diamond.

Rory Mcllroy is going to be sticking with Harry Diamond for the foreseeable future and doesn’t plan on changing that.  They have been best friends since childhood, Diamond was Mcllroy’s best man, and they have been working closely with each other for the past seven years.  Mcllroy will also defend Diamond until the end.  To any fans who want to give Mcllroy caddie advice, he simply “has no time for this Harry Diamond slander.”
