Webb Simpson is the 2020 RBC Heritage champion.
The 34-year-old shot a final round 64, to win the PGA Tour’s second tournament since the three-month hiatus.
It is Simpson’s second win in the 2020 PGA Tour season, the first occurring at the Waste Management Open.

“Thrilled to death to be sitting here as the champion for many reasons,” said Simpson to reporters after earning the win. “I’ve never quite gotten it done here. I was close in 2013, losing to Graeme McDowell in the playoff. So it feels great.”

Simpson started the final round in a four-way tie for the lead, along with his playing partner Ryan Palmer, Abraham Ancer and Tyrrell Hatton. Shooting two-under on the Front 9, Simpson was chasing the leaders and needed to make birdies on the closing side.
The Raleigh, North Carolina native recorded five birdies in his last seven holes, including three straight on holes 15 through 17. Simpson ranked second in the field in strokes gained: putting (6.603) and converted 46-of-47 putts inside seven feet this week.

“To see the putts go in when I needed them, that was really fun to see the ball going in the hole,” Simpson said.

This is the second time Simpson won on Father’s Day, the first coming at the U.S. Open in 2012 at Olympic Club. Unlike his major championship victory, his father, Sam, wasn’t around to see his son win, after passing away in 2017 due to Parkinson’s disease. Simpson thought about his Dad while he was out on the course on Sunday.
“I’ll never forget calling my dad after on the way to the press conference, and when he picked up the phone, he just was laughing,” Simpson said. “That’s kind of what he did when he was happy, he would just laugh. So I’m going to miss that laugh today for sure.”
Sunday’s victory for Simpson is his seventh in his PGA Tour career. The win moves Simpson to fifth on the Official World Golf Rankings, matching his career-best position in 2012.
