After Derrick Rose received surgery to repair a torn meniscus, the Chicago Bulls let everyone know immediately that D-Rose would be out for the season. As soon as I heard this, my heart sank. After being out for 18 months then playing 12 games, he now has to miss ANOTHER SEASON. The entire world was waiting for an amazing return, and now we have to wait another year to fully see it.
Derrick Rose is not just another player. This man is a flat out superstar. He won an MVP. He was considered to be LeBron’s kryptonite. One of the best point guards in the NBA. It doesn’t matter if you are a Bulls fan or not, I don’t see how you can’t be upset by this happening. The NBA just isn’t the same without Derrick Rose.
But what can we expect from D-Rose when he comes back? Will he ever be able to play the same after two major surgeries on his knees? I’m sorry, but I don’t think he will ever be the same. I really fear we have seen the last of Derrick Rose being a superstar player. Trust me, he’ll be good, but he will never be the same. It may not sound right to say, but I’m pretty sure LeBron James and Paul George are sleeping a little easier now.
And now to the bigger question, what happens with the Bulls? They are going to go through the same thing they did last year, possibly worse. They’ll make the playoffs without a doubt, but they’ll be packing their bags early. They’re missing Nate Robinson and Marco Belinelli, who were HUGE for them in the playoffs last year. And with Jimmy Butler out for a few weeks due to a turf toe, it just isn’t looking good in Chicago right now. I can now guarantee that Luol Deng will be traded. Chicago should do whatever they can to get a impact player from that trade. Joakim Noah will need a sidekick. The Bulls will go as far as he takes them. Can they win a playoff series? Yes. But if they do, they’ll be out in the second round. I really just wish Chicago was fully healthy. It’d be pretty amazing to see a healthy Bulls team vs Miami in a playoff series once again.
Stay strong, Chicago fans. Derrick Rose will be back, eventually.
