Last Word On Memes: Sorry Ovie, Crosby Still King

Numbers don’t lie.  In a jump back to 2009, the rivalry between Crosby and Ovechkin has heated up.  But is it really still a question as to which superstar is the world’s best, or is this much ado about nothing?

Crosby has a Stanley Cup with his Penguins beating Ovechkin’s Caps along the way, an Olympic Gold with Team Canada beating the Russians along the way, and has put up historically good PPG averages when he stays healthy.

Meanwhile, Ovechkin has yet to get beyond the second round of the playoffs.

The debate was heating up again this season with the two in the same division.  After all, Ovechkin won the Hart Trophy last season, was just 2 points behind Crosby in the scoring race this season, and had an astonishing 40 goals in his last 42 games.

With all this as a backdrop the Penguins faced the Capitals on Wednesday Night in a National Broadcast on NBC Sports Network.

The Result? another Crosby beatdown of Ovechkin. Oveckhin and the Caps were shutout as the Pens steamrolled them 4-0, Crosby delivering a highlight reel goal, and an assist on the night.

Still this was just another prequel, and the ultimate tests await, one on Ovechkin’s home ground of Sochi Russia, and another in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
