Johnny Manziel: Deja Vu, Heisman-style

The first game of the year for Texas A&M in 2012 was against Florida.  It was also their first game in the SEC and was being guided by a quarterback who was not known to anyone aside from Kevin Sumlin. Fast forward a bit, and this QB would eventually go on to beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa and win the Heisman Trophy. Yes, we are talking about Johnny Manziel.

Johnny Manziel single-handedly shocked the college football world winning the Heisman Trophy as a freshman. Well a year later Johnny is in the exact same spot, trying to do something that only one other player in college football history has done – win two Heisman Trophies. Johnny Manziel has continued his title as Johnny Football from the previous season when he earned the moniker. This title defines him perfectly, his name and the sport he is incredible at.

Johnny Manziel might be considered a natural athlete due to the fact that he is said to be better at baseball and golf than football.  One thing we do know is that Johnny Manziel is an incredible football player too, a fantastic quarterback. Last season Manziel broke numerous records, both nationally and for the SEC. This season he has put up multiple 400+ passing yards games.  What’s that Jameis Winston? Oh, and on top of that Johnny has put up more touchdowns, passing yards, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns than any other quarterback in college football. Why not just give the Heisman trophy to him right now?

Johnny Manziel’s stats reads as follows: 3313 passing yards, 31 TD’s, 73% passing percentage, 611 rushing yards, 8 TD’s. Although he will not break his previous season’s record of 1410 rushing yards, he is only 393 yards away from breaking his passing yards from last season with 3706 yards. On top of that, Johnny Manziel has already put up more passing TD’s this year than he did in all of last season with 31. These are video game-like statistics.

While Texas A&M is not undefeated, they are still in the hunt for a BCS bowl berth. If Texas A&M beats both LSU and Missouri, not only will A&M go to their first BCS bowl game but if Johnny Manziel remains healthy, he will win the Heisman Trophy again.  If he has trouble it will be because of one reason: Jameis Winston and Florida State has an undefeated record. However, recently Jameis Winston has been caught up in a sexual assault crime. If found guilty of any counts you can guarantee a loss of a Heisman Trophy.  A horrible way to win, but Manziel has already put up more and better yards, numbers and highlight plays than Jameis Winston so it’s deserving.

Of course the Heisman is not based on the number of highlight plays, it is based on the player that puts up the best numbers and puts up the better games. Johnny Manziel has also gotten many receivers involved in his passing game including a walk on Travis Labhart and Mike Evans. These two receivers are the best Johnny Manziel has in the receiving game. This is also not mentioning the other great receivers like Malcome Kennedy, Darrelle Walker, and their amazing set of running backs such as Trey Williams, Tre Carson, Ben Molina, and Brandan Williams.  Manziel has so many weapons he can go to, which is another reason why Texas A&M has a top 3 offense in college football.

Johnny Manziel is in premier position to win a second Heisman, and he has four chances to clinch the Heisman:

1. Beat LSU – A&M lost to LSU at home last year. A win at LSU this year would most definitely clinch the Heisman Trophy up

2. Beat Missouri – This is if the Tigers win up until the game against the Aggies, if A&M wins, Johnny wins number 2.

3. Jameis Winston convicted, lose, or injured – It would be terrible for this kid to be convicted or injured but if either of these happen, you can just start the parade in College Station because Johnny will have two Heisman Trophies in his lap.

4. Beat LSU and Missouri – Not only would this lock up a Hesiman Trophy but a possible BCS bowl bid, and maybe if Johnny decides to go pro, a top 5 draft pick.

Johnny Manziel has four chances to win the Hesiman but he can’t lose both games against the Tigers (Missouri and LSU) and Florida State win. If that’s the case, Johnny won’t even go to New York for the Heisman presentation.  This guy is by far the best football player in college football and he is blowing everybody out of the water. Can we say Deja Vu, Johnny Heisman?
