Duron Carter’s CFL Career
Carter’s two-year career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders comes to an abrupt end. The two-time CFL all-star had 266 catches for 4,031 yards and 26 touchdowns in his five-year career spent between the Roughriders and the Montreal Alouettes.
Carter was also deployed at defensive back during his time with the Riders, where he famously recorded two pick-sixes, one off of each of Bo Levi Mitchell and Trevor Harris.
The reasoning behind the release is still unknown. Another NFL opportunity, salary cap implications, or even legal issues could be behind the release. Farhan Lalji of TSN tweeted that Roughriders head coach Chris Jones had not given Carter a reason for his release.
Duron Carter wasn’t given any reason for his release. Was thanked for his work on both sides of the ball & told the team was moving in another direction.
Veteran contracts aren’t guaranteed until after 9th game, so #Riders arent on the hook for the balance of the year. @CFLonTSN— Farhan Lalji (@FarhanLaljiTSN) August 12, 2018
Chris Jones spoke to the media about the move on Monday.

Also according to Lalji, there is plenty of interest around the league in Carter.
I’m told #Alouettes #Argos #BCLions #TiCats have all reached out to Duron Carter. Some have made contract offers. I don’t expect the other 4 teams to reach out. Carter hopes to make a decision in the next couple of days. @CFLonTSN @cfl @TSN_Sports @TSN1040
